The children and families in our communities need assistance more than perhaps ever before. The overwhelming emotional toll that the pandemic has exacted on our nation’s children is something that we must address head-on. Whether it be the loss or the prolonged sickness of a family member or relative, the inability to participate in social activities, or any of its other known impacts, COVID-19 has put tremendous pressure on caregivers and children alike. A bill, the Services and Trauma-Informed Research of Outcomes in Neighborhood Grants (STRONG) for Support for Children Act, recently re-introduced by Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, will make significant strides in remedying this burden. <br><br>Specifically, the STRONG Support for Children Act will direct the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services to administer two new grant programs intended to support local Public Health Departments and community partners in addressing trauma and ensure that programming is conveniently located and accessible to all regardless of immigration status, ability to pay, and prior involvement in the criminal legal system. These are critical elements of a plan designed to help our nation’s families – and especially the children – to recover from the monumental impact of the last 18 months and forge a stronger tomorrow, for everyone. <br><br>I strongly endorse this bill for the benefits it will confer on those who need help the most. I hope that you, too, will support the passage of the STRONG Support for Children Act.
