As temperatures heat up globally, we hope you’re staying cool and finding time for rest and quality time with loved ones.

Left unaddressed, the global climate emergency will continue to generate individual, community, and societal distresses and traumas continuing to compound on existing stressors. In partnership with the International Transformational Resilience Coalition, CTIPP is helping to launch a Community of Practice (CoP) on running community resilience initiatives to prevent and heal climate traumas.

This CoP will educate, connect, and empower participants to organize and operate community-based culturally accountable initiatives that use a public health approach to build population-level capacity for mental wellness and transformational resilience for the climate crisis.

The CoP will begin on Tuesday, October 18, and meet weekly on Tuesdays for 90 minutes for 8 weeks (except Thanksgiving week). Meeting days and frequency in 2023 will be determined by participants. You can register here for an informational webinar on September 13 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. ET and apply to attend

CTIPP has also launched PressOn to create an infrastructure of cross-sector trauma-informed coalitions from the national to state to local levels. We have partnered with the National Prevention Science Coalition to Improve Lives and PACEs Connection to create a coordinated and powerful national grassroots network. If you coordinate a local, regional, state, or national trauma-informed cross-sector coalition, join PressOn today!

Sincerely,

Your friends at CTIPP

CTIPP PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: Natasha Guynes (pictured on the left), President & Founder of HER Resiliency Center (Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD)

HER Resiliency Center (HER) provides 18 to 25-year-old-women overcoming hardship a safe environment to receive the support, skills, and resources they need to make positive decisions and thrive.

We wanted to share Natasha’s perspectives and expertise with the trauma-informed movement as part of our ongoing effort to build the grassroots network, spur collaboration, and share insights from lived and professional experiences.

CALLS TO ACTION & UPCOMING EVENTS

Urge Congress to Re-Authorize the Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV). MIECHV has been shown to help parents break the cycles of trauma and poverty by providing support and teaching skills needed to achieve financial stability and to help raise healthy, happy, thriving children.

MIECHV funding is due for reauthorization this year; without it, tens of thousands of families will lose access to these essential programs.

We are urging Federal representatives to re-authorize funding and increase it by $1 billion in the next five years.

Weds, August 17: CTIPP’s next Community Action Network (CAN) call will feature a shared presentation by Dan Press and Jesse Kohler about their passion for trauma-informed work, lessons learned thus far, and where they see this movement headed. Jen Curt will lead the conversation on elections and DC updates, including a National Council on Mental Wellbeing on Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics presentation and what to expect in the implementation of increased funding.

 MINDFUL MOMENT: Take a Minute

This month’s mindful moment can help you experience the present moment more meaningfully, and if you practice this a lot, it can start to become automatic.

Simply pick anything in your environment and choose to pay attention to it for one minute. It can be a cloud floating by in the sky or the way your fan/air-conditioning sways the paper on your desk.

If your attention moves on, simply and gently bring it back to the object.I

NEWS RELEASE: CTIPP Applauds Passage of the Honoring Our PACT Act to Support Veterans

“The Honoring our PACT Act will ensure over 3.5 million veterans finally receive healthcare and support. This legislation rightly shifts the burden of proof off our veterans, preventing re-traumatization and further harm. Streamlining the VA’s decision-making process should also speed up healthcare delivery, so veterans will get help more quickly."

CTIPP’s VISION HIGHLIGHT: Advance Environmental and Climate Justice

A robust and growing body of research draws a connection between environment- and climate-related issues and increased experiences of traumatic stress and adversity. Building resilience on health, safety, and holistic wellness should be prioritized through a trauma-informed, equity-centered, and justice-oriented lens.
